"In Remembrance: Songs of Reflection and Nostalgia" to feature LMC, SJHS, and SMC choirs

LMC Concert Choir and LMC Vocal Chamber, each under the direction of Rebecca Derbas-Selvidge, join with other local choirs for an evening of music dedicated to the times, places, and people that impact the human experience.

"In Remembrance: Songs of Reflection and Nostalgia" features the Lake Michigan College Choirs, St. Joseph High School Choirs conducted by Elizabeth Gray-Roll, St. Joseph High School Chamber Orchestra conducted by Burke Lockey, and Southwestern Michigan College Choirs conducted by David Carew.

Two performances are scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, at St Joseph High School Auditorium, 2521 Stadium Dr, St Joseph, Mich., and 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 28, in the theatre in the Dale A. Lyons Building on SMC's Dowagiac campus, 58900 Cherry Grove Rd.

LMC Concert Choir will perform “If Music Be the Food of Love,” David Dickau and “More I Cannot Wish for You,” arr. Steve Zegree. LMC Vocal Chamber selections are “Lost Love” Paul Sjolund; “And So It Goes” arr. Chilcott, and “The Days of Wine and Roses” arr. Steve Zegree. Chorllennium, a semi-professional choral group, will perform “I’m Going Away” arr. Mack Wilberg and “Great God A’ Mighty” arr. Stacy V. Gibbs.

The evening culminates with a performance of the Fauré Requiem performed by all the choirs and the chamber orchestra. Admission for each performance is free.

About the Lake Michigan College Visual & Performing Arts Department
The Visual & Performing Arts department allows students to reach new levels of excellence through classroom instruction and public performance. The program is based in The Mendel Center, the only performing arts center of its kind in southwest Michigan. Here, LMC students have opportunities to study theatre, instrumental and vocal music, dance, drawing, painting, and more in a venue that attracts more than 100,000 patrons annually.

Auditions are held for select ensembles that perform on the same stages as world-renowned touring acts. Students in any major also have opportunities to audition for Broadway musicals and plays and join three different vocal ensembles, string and wind ensembles, a pop-rock ensemble, drumline, and jazz band. One of only two colleges in Michigan to carry the prestigious All-Steinway designation, LMC has a team of highly qualified professors that bring real-world expertise to the classroom.
