Lake Michigan College receives state grant for cultural programming

Lake Michigan College receives state grant for cultural programming

Lake Michigan College was recently awarded an $18,000 Project Support Grant from the State of Michigan Arts and Cultural Council (MACC) for its 2023-2024 Lake Michigan College Mendel Center season. The grant supports the presentation of the following season performances:

“We are grateful for the funding support provided by the Michigan Arts and Culture Council,” said LMC Mendel Center Executive Director George Kendall. “We appreciate the work and consideration of our elected government officials who recognize the value of investing in the arts as part of a strategy to strengthen communities throughout our great state.”

MACC Project Support Grants assist in funding the production, presentation, and creation of arts and culture that promote public engagement, diverse and excellent art, lifelong learning in the arts, and the strengthening and livability of communities through the arts. They are awarded through a competitive, peer review process. Organizations receiving MACC grants must match those funds with other public and private dollars.

“This grant, combined with support from our season sponsors, donors, volunteers, and patrons, elevates the quality of life in our region through the arts and provides people of all ages and backgrounds with opportunities to learn and connect through shared experiences,” Kendall added.

The MACC peer review process allows each grant application to be competitively considered by a panel of in-state and out-of-state arts and cultural professionals. This ensures that the taxpayers who support this project through legislative appropriations and all other visitors and residents in Michigan will have access to the highest quality arts and cultural experiences.

A complete list of grant awards around the state is available by contacting MACC at (517) 241-4011, or by visiting the MACC website at www.michigan.gov/arts.
