Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel to speak about election protection during Lake Michigan College visit

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel will speak about election protection and answer questions at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 30, at the Lake Michigan College Mendel Center Hanson Theatre. This free event, hosted by the League of Women Voters of Berrien & Cass Counties and LMC Votes!, is open to the public. Doors open at 5:45 p.m.

“We are excited to hear from Attorney General Nessel about the integrity of the upcoming elections,” said LMC Political Science Faculty Dr. Tiffany Bohm, who advises LMC Votes!, a nonpartisan, student-led organization that encourages student participation in the election process. “Michigan is ahead of many states thanks to protections put in place by the Attorney General’s office. This is a fantastic opportunity for our students and our community to learn more about the process.”

A former criminal prosecutor and civil rights attorney, Nessel was sworn in as Michigan’s 54th Attorney General in January 2019.

As the State’s Chief Law Enforcement Officer, Nessel and her department work to ensure that every vote is counted and the will of the voters is upheld in every election. In the rare instances of voter fraud, her department prosecutes offenses to the fullest extent.

A graduate of the University of Michigan and Wayne State University Law School, Nessel lives in Southeast Michigan with her wife, Alanna Maguire, and her twin sons, Alex and Zach.

“We are thrilled that Attorney General Dana Nessel is coming to Berrien County,” said Faith Schoon, President of the League of Women Voters of Berrien & Cass Counties. “She has spoken at other League events around the state, and we know she supports our mission of making democracy work. The list of issues she has worked on for the citizens of Michigan is long and encompasses many areas the League has taken a position on through our advocacy process. We look forward to her remarks on protecting the election process and thank Lake Michigan College for collaborating to make this event possible.”

Those interested in participating in the Q&A portion of the presentation are asked to email questions to Bohm by Thursday, April 26. For more information about the event, please contact Bohm at 269-927-8877 or
