Direct from Broadway, What the Constitution Means to Me breathes new life into the U.S. Constitution and imagines how it will shape the next generation of Americans. As a teenager, playwright Heidi Schreck earned her college tuition by winning Constitutional debate competitions across the country. In this hilarious, hopeful, and achingly human play, she resurrects her teenage self to trace the profound relationship between four generations of women in her family and the founding document that shaped their lives.
Directed by Oliver Butler, Schreck's timely and galvanizing play became a sensation off-Broadway before transferring to Broadway, where it earned two Tony Award nominations among numerous other accolades. The New York Times called it one of the most important plays to open on Broadway in recent memory.
Admission is free and open to all LMC students, faculty, staff and community members.
The event is presented through a collaboration between the University of Notre Dame and The GhostLight Theater, and is sponsored by Berrien/Cass County League of Women Voters and LMC Votes!, the College's nonpartisan voter engagement initiative. Following the LMC performance, the production will continue its run at GhostLight Theater.
